The Waiting Sky
One summer chasing tornadoes could finally change
Jane's life for the better
Seventeen-year-old Jane McAllister can't quite
admit her mother's alcoholism is spiraling dangerously out of control until she
drives drunk, nearly killing them and Jane's best friend.
Jane has only one place to turn: her older brother
Ethan, who left the problems at home years ago for college. A summer with him
and his tornado-chasing buddies may just provide the time and space Jane needs
to figure out her life and whether it still includes her mother. But she
struggles with her anger at Ethan for leaving home and feels guilty is she also
abandoning her mom just when she needs Jane most? The carefree trip turned
journey of self-discovery quickly becomes more than Jane bargained for,
especially when the devilishly handsome Max steps into the picture.
Words
"I collect words. I keep them in a box in my mind.
I'd like to keep them in a real box, something pretty, maybe a shoe box covered
with flowered wrapping paper. Whenever I wanted, I'd open the box and pick up
the papers, reading and feeling the words all at once. Then I could hide the
box. But the words are safer in my mind. There, he can't take
them."
Ten-year old Kaylee Wren doesn't speak. Not since
her drug-addled mother walked away, leaving her in a remote cabin nestled in the
towering redwoods-in the care of a man who is as dangerous as he is evil. With
silence her only refuge, Kaylee collects words she might never speak from the
only memento her mother left behind: a dictionary.
Sierra Dawn is thirty-four, an artist, and alone.
She has allowed the shame of her past to silence her present hopes and chooses
to bury her pain by trying to control her circumstances. But on the twelfth
anniversary of her daughter's death, Sierra's control begins to crumble as the
God of her childhood woos her back to Himself.
Brought together by Divine design, Kaylee and
Sierra will discover together the healing mercy of the Word-Jesus
Christ.
Heron's Cove
New York Times bestselling author Carla Neggers
returns with a gripping story of romantic suspense, where FBI agents Sharpe and
Donovan must decide whether working alone or standing together is the only way
to outwit an enemy set to tear them apart.
When your safety depends on living a
lie…
After escaping certain death, deep-cover agent
Colin Donovan is back home on the Maine coast with his new love, FBI art crimes
expert Emma Sharpe. Then Tatiana Pavlova, a London-based jewelry designer,
arrives in Heron's Cove, asking for Emma's help—a prized collection from a lost
era of Russian opulence, decadence and rare beauty has resurfaced, and Tatiana
warns Emma it's about to be stolen again. And Colin realizes his nightmare isn't
over. It's just begun.
And everyone you love is a target…
Emma guards her past closely, and Colin is
determined to unlock her secrets. As they investigate the mysterious collection
and the equally mysterious Tatiana, they confront their greatest challenge. Now
they must count on their expertise—and each other—to outwit an enemy who wants
to destroy them and everyone they love most.
Who can you afford to trust?
All Fall Down
In the midst of a chaotic midnight assembly,
Sunshine is forced outside into the darkness. Holding a scrap of paper scrawled
with a stranger's name and address, Sunny grasps the hands of her three small
children and begins her escape.
Liesel Albright has dreamed of starting a family.
She never bargained on inheriting one already in progress…or one so deeply
damaged. When nineteen-year-old Sunshine appears on the Albrights' doorstep
claiming Liesel's husband, Chris, is her father, all they can think to offer is
temporary shelter. The next day, they're stunned by the news that the Family of
Superior Bliss, led by a charismatic zealot, has committed mass suicide. Sunny
and her children haven't just left the compound—they've been left
behind.
Now, instead of a baby of her own, Liesel must play
mother to the four survivors, while Chris retreats into guilt and denial. For
Sunny, however, a lifetime of teachings is not easily unlearned. No matter how
hard she tries to forget, an ominous catechism echoes in her mind, urging her to
finish what the Family started.
Heaven's War
When it first appeared, the astronomers named the
asteroid Keanu.
A Near Earth Object, from a distant constellation,
it was headed directly toward our sun.
But when we went to meet it, it turned out to be
far more than a huge rock hurtling through space...
The two teams of astronauts sent to explore Keanu
discovered it is, in fact, a spacecraft, a giant ship with an alien crew. A ship
that had headed to Earth with a mission and a message: Help Us. A brave new
frontier beckons. But we are about to learn that it comes with a
price...
Without warning, the aliens transport small groups
of humans from the competing scientific communities of Houston, Texas and
Bangalore, India to the vast interior habitats of Keanu. Their first challenge
is to survive. Their second to discover why The Architects—the unknown,
unseen aliens controlling the asteroid—brought them there. And soon a third
emerges: they must find a way to take control of Keanu.
Because the NEO is moving again—away from Earth.
The Architects are headed home...
Power Blind
Power corrupts.
Power and money corrupt absolutely.
In Washington, Senator Landon Meyer—leading
presidential candidate and pivotal voice in a divided senate—imposes his choices
to fill two Supreme Court vacancies on the President. In San Francisco, Charlie
Palmer—a specialist in burying the crimes of the political and financial
elite—lies paralyzed by a gunshot. Linking the two is the senator's
all-too-cunning brother—a federal judge secretly managing his
campaign.
An hour before his death, Palmer reaches out to
private investigator Graham Gage, a man he's both feared and admired, but his
words remain choked in his throat. A funeral-day burglary of Palmer's office and
a wife's plea for the truth about her husband's misdeeds plunge Gage into a
morass of murder, corporate cover-ups, and corrupted justice that masks a
political money-laundering scheme threatening to destroy not only our democracy,
but all that is dear to Gage . . .

Lessons from a Dead
Girl
"Portrays the tense and finely crafted dynamics
between two girls. . . .A razor-sharp examination of friendship, abuse, and
secrets." — KIRKUS REVIEWS
Leah Greene is dead. For Laine, knowing what really
happened and the awful feeling that she is, in some way, responsible set her on
a journey of painful self-discovery. Yes, she wished for this. She hated Leah
that much. Hated her for all the times in the closet, when Leah made her do
those things. They were just practicing, Leah said. But why did Leah choose her?
Was she special, or just easy to control? And why didn’t Laine make it stop
sooner? In the aftermath of the tragedy, Laine is left to explore the
devastating lessons Leah taught her, find some meaning in them, and decide
whether she can forgive Leah and, ultimately, herself.
Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most
Powerful Mercenary Army
On September 16, 2007, machine gun fire erupted in
Baghdad's Nisour Square leaving seventeen Iraqi civilians dead, among them women
and children. The shooting spree, labeled "Baghdad's Bloody Sunday," was neither
the work of Iraqi insurgents nor U. S. soldiers. The shooters were private
forces working for the secretive mercenary company, Blackwater Worldwide. This
is the explosive story of a company that rose a decade ago from Moyock, North
Carolina, to become one of the most powerful players in the "War on Terror. " In
his gripping bestseller, awardwinning journalist Jeremy Scahill takes us from
the bloodied streets of Iraq to hurricane-ravaged New Orleans to the chambers of
power in Washington, to expose Blackwater as the frightening new face of the U.

Rubicon
Hoping to escape the political spotlight, Bobby
Hart, senator from California, declined a presidential run. But while in
Germany, the idealistic young politician discovers terrifying evidence of a
conspiracy to destroy democracy in America—an unthinkable plot codenamed
Rubicon.
Someone important is going to die, though
Hart doesn't know who, or why, or when. Only two things are clear: it will
happen some time before the upcoming election—and once it does, like Caesar's
army crossing the fabled river on their relentless march toward Rome, there will
be no turning back.
Caught in a desperate race against death and
time, Bobby Hart must now expose an insidious nightmare that threatens every
man, woman, and child in America. Because Rubicon is not about stealing a
presidential election—it is about stealing a country.
The Klone and I
Stephanie had a rat for a husband. But after 13
years of marriage and two kids, she was devastated when he left her for a
younger woman. Suddenly Stephanie was alone. And after months of trying to find
a little romance on New York's wild singles circuit, she was ready to give up,
reconciled to just raising her two great, but outspoken, kids. Then a
spur-of-the-moment trip to Paris changed everything.
She met him on the Left Bank. Peter Baker was a
marvelously handsome high-tech entrepreneur also visiting the city. Stephanie
was certain it couldn't possibly work. Peter was just too perfect. But much to
her amazement, he contacted her when they returned to New York. And at the Long
Island rental cottage she shared with her kids, Stephanie embarked on a bizarre
and hilarious adventure beyond her wildest dreams.
Shy, serious Peter, chairman of a bionic
enterprise, was supposed to be away on business. Instead, he's standing at her
door, wearing day-glo satin and rhinestones. Naturally, Stephanie thinks it's a
joke until the truth suddenly dawns: this isn't Peter playing a role. This is
his double! Calling himself Paul Klone, this wild, uninhibited creature isn't
even remotely like Peter except for his identically sexy good looks. This
uproarious novel explores the outrageous love triangle that develops between
Stephanie, Peter...and the Klone.
In a wickedly funny, right-on-target look at
finding the perfect mate in an imperfect world, bestselling novelist Danielle
Steel reveals insights into the human heart that have made her novels #1
bestsellers around the world.
The Holcroft Covenant
The Fourth Reich is waiting to be born. The only
man who can stop it is about to sign its birth certificate. In 1945 the children
of the Third Reich were secretly hidden all over the world-to be concealed until
the 1970's, when they would come of age. Then the most elaborate plans and $780
million in a Swiss bank would be waiting. There would even be an unsuspecting
outsider to set the plan into action. that outsider is Noel Holcroft, the
American son of a high-ranking Nazi. He's just been shown an amazing document,
the Holcroft Covenant. If he signs, it will be his own death warrant and a
devastating threat to the security of the world.
Darkness Under the
Sun
A brand new exlcusive novella, available only as an
eBook, from the international bestselling master of suspense.
The chilling account of a pivotal encounter between
innocence and ultimate malice, Darkness Under the Sun is the perfect read for
Halloween – or for any haunted night – and reveals a secret, fateful turning
point in the career of Alton Turner Blackwood, the killer at the dark heart of
What the Night Knows, the forthcoming novel by Sunday Times bestselling author
Dean Koontz.
There once was a killer who knew the night, its
secrets and rhythms. How to hide within its shadows. When to hunt.
He roamed from town to town, city to city, choosing
his prey for their beauty and innocence. His cruelties were infinite, his
humanity long since forfeit. But still…he had not yet discovered how to make his
special mark among monsters, how to come fully alive as Death.
This is the story of how he learned those things,
and of what we might do to insure that he does not visit us.
The Rancher and the Rock
Star
I did not have high expectations when I started
reading this book. The title did not really reach out to me and, I must confess,
if Avon had not given me an advanced eBook loan of it, I'd probably have glanced
right by it on the shelf. That said, this was a very sweet and, for me,
surprisingly enjoyable read. There was plenty of drama, engaging characters that
I could relate to, and enough going on to keep my attention and stay in my
thoughts well after I'd finished reading. I gave this one 4 out of 5 roses. On
the Lisarenee Romance Rating Scale, this one gets a FAN rating the temperature
in the room seems to have suddenly gone up a couple of degrees. Your face may be
slightly flushed and a fan would be nice. I thought the chemistry between Gray
and Abby was undeniable and the two complimented each other very well. A truly
heartwarming love story that left me with a smile on my face.
The Stolen Chalice
This is the perfect book to take with you on
vacation...a fantastic, page-turning escape into the world of international art
theft and terrorism, from New York to Venice and Edinburgh to Egypt. This is
only Kitty Pilgrim's second novel (after The Explorer's Code) but I'm looking
forward to seeing what her imagination gives us next!
The Thread
The story of Katerina and Dimitri is one that is
long in the making. We know they will end up together but the road there is long
because of war and its impact on both of them. And Dimitri is rich, but with a
troubled family life. Katerina is poor, but with a loving family. But something
brings them together, I will let something be a secret. I do like both of them,
and their friends and family. Since the books spans over a big portion of time
there will be losses, heartache and sorrow, happiness and new paths to take,
weaving it all to beautiful story that takes a hold of you.
Thieftaker
Ethan Kaille is a thieftaker (never thiefcatcher,
presumably) operating in pre-Revolutionary Boston. He's a man with a dark secret
and a dark past. He has a very particular set of skills skills that make
him a nightmare for people like...well, thieves. You see, Kaille is a
"conjurer." Conjurers "spell" using a familiar (in Kaille's case, a ghost
dressed in medieval armor), some physical element (most commonly a few drops of
their own blood, but leaves will do in a pinch), and a few words of Latin. He
also spent time in penal colony (shush!) for his role in an infamous
mutiny.
Jackson tries hard to give Thieftaker a
pre-Revolutionary flavor. Details of dress, dinner, and decolletage are
frequently mentioned. Historical events and figures are alluded to (and appear).
It works to give the novel that "feel" that historical fiction demands, although
the tendency of any lower-class character to speak apostrophese is grating (yes,
I just invented that word).
Trafficked: The Diary of a Sex
Slave
Sibel Hodge paints a vivid picture of a woman
caught up in a global travesty of our time: Sex-Slave Trafficking. Using the
Diary format to tell Elena's story of betrayal, helplessness, and degradation,
Hodge sheds light on an industry that preys on thousands of young women every
day. Using a novelist's skill, we come to care for Elena quickly. Women readers
can easily relate to Elena and how she feels caught in the trap of prostitution.
The piece is gritty, but not gruesome. I read it in one sitting. It left me
feeling like I wanted to DO SOMETHING, which I imagine was the reason Sibel
diverted from her usual chick-lit fare to tackle a serious subject. Hopefully,
the pen truly is mightier than the sword, and "Diary" will help raise awareness
and action against one of the most shameful elements of modern times. Change
begins with resolve. I admire Sibel Hodge for devoting her time and talent
keeping this issue in the spotlight.
True Believers
This novel is not just an astute look at our
culture then and now, it's also the author's shrewd observations about time and
memory. Perhaps it's because I am old enough to remember Kennedy's
assassination, but I felt that this book absolutely spoke to me. I have
dog-eared so many pages of this novel because I thought there were so many
passages that were so spot-on and so clever. I don't know if someone much
younger would get as much out of this book as I did, but for me this book was
just terrific. Although I thought it was a little slow-go towards the start, it
soon became a page-turner for me and when I put it down I couldn't wait to pick
it back up. I am writing this book at night after having just finished it, and I
know I will be thinking about it for a long, long time. I can think of no higher
compliment than that.
Viral
The best subplot involves manipulation of the
media. I particularly liked the comparison of news stories to viruses that
spread out of control. Cryptology fans will enjoy the ciphers that Jon must
puzzle out. I thought his ability to do so was a bit of a stretch, and I was
never convinced that Charles wouldn't have simply called Jon rather than playing
cipher games, but most modern thrillers ask the reader to suspend disbelief for
the sake of a good story. In that regard, the most difficult thing to accept is
that Jon can pass for an African by wearing dark brown make-up while he labors
all day under the hot sun.
The Dark God's Bride Book
1
I read The Dark God's Bride (Book 1) in one day.
Once I began, I just had to keep going. Overall, this book was very enjoyable
and flowed nicely. The writing was descriptive and brought out emotion. I could
picture the scenes as they happened. Amara, the heroine of the story, is the
daughter of Kali the bride of Lucifer. Amara is determined to protect her mother
from a mythical god bent on revenge. She ends up in different situations and
takes you along for the ride.
The Dark God's Bride Book
2
This book is not grammatically perfect but I don't
care. I loved this book, the whole series and well all Miss Lu's works (I own
them all). I am emotionally invested in the characters and the story line is
fast paced and exciting. I have read this book twice since I bought it. These
are some of my favorite books and I will continue to reread all of them. There
is something in every book that moves the stories of all the characters forward.
To me personally all these books go together and I love that! I am so ready for
book 3! I don't know that I can wait til October.
The Deep Zone
Ultimately, I had a good time with this book, but
it had flaws. While Mr. Tabor has significant writing background, he's a
relative new-comer to the world of fiction. This is a thriller, so let's not
dwell on character development. It is what it is. Hallie's a well-rounded and
likeable enough protagonist, and a strong female character. I suppose that my
biggest problems with this novel were some predictable plotting, as well as some
plot contrivances, some just plain dumb stuff, and a fairly clunky romantic
subplot. These flaws were countered with a lot of fun in the story being told.
And Tabor does a pretty terrific job with the novel's exotic setting. (I'm
probably one of the few readers who knows people who actually engage in the
high-risk activities these characters do a few of them are even still alive.)
This kind of world-class cave exploration is fascinating. The science is mostly
unobtrusive, but well-handled in general. And there are some very entertaining
plot twists and turns. Once the novel finally gets going, things are quite
fast-paced.
The Explorer's Code
I loved The Explorer's Code and think it is a
wonderful debut from the talented Kitty Pilgrim. I found her characters likable,
fun and real. The dialogue is fast, fresh and classy without being
pretentious.
The plotlines kept me guessing and I wondered how it would all
end. The locations are so unique, I felt like I learned so much from reading
this novel.
A triumph!
The Goddess Legacy
A relatively quick read, I was surprised by how
much was explained in regards to plot points from the previous novels. Though
completely separate, each novella provided a larger piece of the whole and
really helped to further my comprehension behind various gods/goddesses' motives
in regards to their behaviour with Kate. I will say that as a whole, their
behaviour is horrendous - most of their actions are done out of jealousy or
anger and they seem to be almost completely governed by their emotions. But,
their overly emotional responses also made for some exciting
reading!
The Impeachment of
Abraham
Abigail Canner is the daughter of the middle-class
black community of Washington DC. She's been well-educated and is a beauty. She
wants to be a lawyer and, by god, she will be. Her determination to get ahead is
part of her charm to the many - both black and white - who meet her. And Abigail
is only one of Carter's many well-drawn characters in his book. There are no
caricatures, and the plot is well-paced. Heavy on law, Carter does a good job, a
really good job, at explaining the law to the reader.
The Innocents
Adam is transfixed and ignited by the sight of her
even as he is repelled and intimidated by her cavalier independence from the
strictures and reproaches of their insular community. He cannily aspires to
accidentally on purpose run into Ellie, bringing himself closer and closer into
dangerous territory, like in AGE OF INNOCENCE. They develop a muted, cryptic,
but inwardly tender kinship, circling around each other, chastely, also similar
in spirit to Wharton's book. Meanwhile, Rachel's wedding plans are irritating
him, because he wants to be married "quickly" and without fanfare, to be wed and
put stray longings to rest.
Monsieur Pain
Among the pleasures of "Monsieur Pain" is how
economically Bolano sketches scene after scene, managing to disorient the reader
while generally maintaining narrative equilibrium. For me, the experience of
reading "Monsieur Pain" was akin to watching a film noir, one with an
experimental bent. One reviewer likened it to to the style and effect of David
Lynch. As for his treatment of details, some scenes reminded me of Hitchcock,
especially in the way Bolano "edits" the sights and sounds of a sequence, and
the way he uses physical surroundings to echo psychological space, and vice
versa. At the very least you are likely to come away impressed by how skillfully
the author (who viewed himself principally as a poet) taps into the strange
beauty of the world, and conveys this with a sensitive descriptive
power.
Targets of
Opportunity
The plot gets more complicated as Sandor discovers
previously unknown details relating to terrorist strikes. There is an evil
antagonist in this novel, one that remains in the shadows-hidden even from the
reader. Sandor is forced to make tough decisions and think quickly, faster than
he ever has before. The action takes off from there.
This book is great for thriller, action, and
intrigue/mystery enthusiasts. The book's ultimate plot is "nuclear", so to
speak. The main character, Sandor, is a character who is easy to admire. He is
intelligent, daring, and extremely brave. The secondary characters are all
interesting and the reader will like meeting the majority of them. The events
are super fast-paced and the plot is terrific, the reader will be following
Sandor who is on a ticking time bomb mission. This book is terrific for
adults.
Friends Forever
Danielle Steel used to be my favorite author years
ago, but as time went on her books seemed to include a lot of repetition of
descriptions and phrases. To the point, that at times, I thought I was reading
the same page over and over. "Friends Forever" is entirely different from
Danielle Steel's other books. It is a love story, but not really a romantic love
story. It is about the kind of love that surrounds a good friendship. Also, it
is the story of a group of five kids, who met in kindergarten and became a
tightly bound group as they grew up ~ loving, supporting and caring for each
other into early adulthood. I wish I could say that what this group encountered
while becoming adults was unusual or "over the top", but unfortunately I think
these types of life obstacles happen more and more today in all of our lives.
This book restored my interest in this author, there was little repetition and
what was there fit well on the page. The main characters were engaging and their
families and siblings also well presented. Because of the character development
there were more not only five stories going on, but also a series of mini-sagas
which will keep readers on their toes remembering what was happening at all
times and gathering clues as to what will come next.
Getting Away with It
This book is true heavyweight coming in at 600
pages. I must admit I was daunted by the prospect of reading it, but once I got
started, I was hooked and that was it for me. Elizabeth "Liza" Haven is the bad
twin and Emily "Lee" the good one. Liza is a stunt double while Lee has given up
a career as an antique restorer to take over the family's ice cream business.
Liza comes home after many years of avoiding Stoneguard at her sister's request,
only to find Lee missing and everyone thinking Liza is Lee. So not knowing
exactly what's happened to Lee, Liza steps into her shoes. It's a new experience
for Liza not being the hated and reviled one and once she gets started, its hard
to stop. Liza starts realizing things aren't always the way they
seem.
Grave Danger
She works late one evening to prepare for filming
at nearby cemetary next day. While a coworker is out getting dinner she starts
to hear strange noises at the office. She goes to investigate and must traverse
the area which contains many movie set pieces (werewolves, skeletons, etc.). Not
too far away at the actual movie set, her cop ex is investigating a murder on
set. As this is romance tale - the things that can transpire between a murder
scene and a building of close proximity bring the gal grave danger and the cop
running to her rescue. There is a paranormal ghost element I could have done
without - but it was required overall for story.
Haven: A Bishop/SCU
Novel
Jessie works for Haven, the privately owned company
that is associated with Bishop's FBI division. (For those of you who haven't
read any of Kay Hooper's books, Noah Bishop and his group use their powers such
as clairvoyance, empathy and medium to solve crimes.) She knows that she needs
to return to her hometown and resolve her past before she can move on. Emma,
meanwhile, has been having nightmares of women being brutally murdered. Thrown
into the mix is Nathan Navarro, another Haven operative, whose specialty is
locating dead people.
Hooper's books can be pretty grim and gory, but
this one, while grim, isn't as gory as those before. I liked the characters and
I was surprised at the ending.
Judgment Call: A Brady Novel of
Suspense
A second homicide soon follows. As Brady leads the
investigation, someone is leaking information on Facebook about the crimes
including a damaging photo that only Jenny could have taken. Besides suspecting
her daughter as the leak, Joanna believes Jenny conceals something critical to
the case. As she digs deeper and finds a threatening video, Joanna begins to
uncover secrets the prim and proper late principal hid for years.
The latest sheriff Brady police procedural (see
Fire and Ice) is a superb entry as the heroine struggles to balance her job with
her daughter's needs. The investigation is top rate and enhanced by the social
media intruding on the case. Additionally, longtime fans will appreciate the
ties to a murder case that has remained cold in the background of the series as
J.A. Jance provides a great whodunit.
A Desirable Residence
Reading "Desirable Residence" was like going to a
party and hearing the latest gossip about all your friends and neighbors. The
plot was juicy and the characters likable. As a huge Maeve Binchy fan, I enjoyed
reading another British author with a flair for characters and plots that
connect them to each other. It was a fun and frothy book and made me want to
read more of Wickham's work.
Black Site: A Delta Force
Novel
Dalton Fury over delivers in his book Black Site.
The hero, Kolt Raynor, is smart, resourceful, and tough. The only thing that
will stop Kolt from achieving his objective is death, and Kolt proves he is hard
to kill. Kolt draws on his experience in Delta Force to conduct missions even
Delta can't get authorization for. The action and drama is intense as Dalton
Fury creates a story so real you will feel you are there with Kolt, and you will
likely duck for cover as you pull for Kolt. There is no BS in this book. All the
characters and situations are based on reality. I worked with Dalton in the
military, and I was very impressed with the book. The audio version is well
read, and is a good option. I found myself playing the audio at home on the Blu
Ray because it grabbed me so well. Everyone I have recommended the book to has
thanked me.
Blindside
Alex Cahill and Logan Finch return in the gripping
third novel in GJ Moffat's Glasgow-set crime series. When a passenger jet
crashes in Denver, Colorado, nobody survives. In Glasgow, Alex Cahill is
surprised to receive a phone call from the wife of an old Secret Service
colleague who was supposedly travelling on the doomed plane. But there is no
record of his name on the passenger list. Cahill uses his connections to find
out what has happened but no one is talking. Not even to him. Enlisting the help
of his lawyer and friend, Logan Finch, Cahill is determined to get some answers.
Logan's girlfriend, DCI Rebecca Irvine, is also looking for answers. A new drug
is killing users but is it accidental death or could it be homicide? As Rebecca
searches the streets of Glasgow, and Cahill and Logan head to Denver, they are
unaware that a perfect storm of events across the globe is about to engulf them
all...
Bullets, Brass, and Babes: A Thriller
Anthology
There are short stories in this book by Carolyn,
but there is NOT one about Ronnie and Zach. (BUMMER!!!) So if your main reason
for buying this book is to read a short story about them, you may not want to
purchase this. But, if you do purchase it I don't think you'll be totally
disappointed since the action is very similar to the book
Encrypted.
Catching Fireflies
Catching Fireflies is a hard-hitting and powerful
lesson that addresses bullying from many different perspectives. Through Misty
Dawson, we see how shame and fear cause her to keep silent about the horrible
rumors that her fellow classmates are spreading about her. With her parents
immersed in their own personal drama, we learn how easy it is for children to
hide what is going on their lives.
Why would someone deliberately destroy another
person's reputation? In Catching Fireflies, the reason is multi-faceted.
Jealousy is the primary motivation. Lack of parental discipline and guidance
play a role. Support from friends gives the illusion that the behavior is
acceptable and in fact, they join their friend in her personal
vendetta.
Easy Prey
Fans of Lucas will want to read this, and I am
definitely a fan. But this is not up to Sandford's usual standards. Lucas (and
the plot) wander aimlessly through this book. It seems as if Sandford was just
throwing in any plot element that occurred to him while he was writing. And
isn't it time for Lucas to either commit to a relationship, or stop beginning
one with every woman he encounters? Lucas is too fascinating a character to
descend to a soap opera type life.
First Shift
In 2007, the Center for Automation in Nanobiotech
(CAN) outlined the hardware and software platform that would one day allow
robots smaller than human cells to make medical diagnoses, conduct repairs, and
even self-propagate. In the same year, the CBS network re-aired a program about
the effects of propranolol on sufferers of extreme trauma. A simple pill, it had
been discovered, could wipe out the memory of any traumatic event. At almost the
same moment in humanity’s broad history, mankind had discovered the means for
bringing about its utter downfall. And the ability to forget it ever
happened.
The After Wife
Gigi Levangie Grazer, the New York Times
bestselling author of The Starter Wife, returns with a hilarious and spirited
tale of love—both lost and found.
L.A. is no place for widows. This
is what forty-four-year-old Hannah Bernal quickly discovers after the tragic
death of her handsome and loving husband, John. Misery and red-rimmed eyes are
little tolerated in the land of the beautiful. But life stumbles on: Hannah’s
sweet three-year-old daughter, Ellie, needs to be dropped off at her overpriced
preschool, while Hannah herself must get back to work in order to pay the bills
on “Casa Sugar,” the charming Spanish-styled bungalow they call
home.
Fortunately, Hannah has her “Grief Team” for emotional
support: earth mother and fanatical animal lover Chloe, who finds a potential
blog post in every moment aspiring actress Aimee, who has her cosmetic
surgeon on speed dial and Jay, Hannah’s TV producing partner, who has a
penchant for Mr. Wrong. But after a series of mishaps and bizarre occurrences,
one of which finds Hannah in a posh Santa Monica jail cell, her friends start to
fear for her sanity. To make matters worse, John left their financial affairs in
a disastrous state. And when Hannah is dramatically fired from her latest
producing gig, she finds herself in danger of losing her house, her daughter,
and her mind.
One night, standing in her backyard under a majestic
avocado tree, in the throes of grief, Hannah breaks down and asks, “Why?” The
answer that comes back—Why not?—begins an astounding journey of discovery and
transformation that leads Hannah to her own truly extraordinary life after
death.
Ripper
The real Jack the Ripper is loose, and this time
he’s brought friends to the darkness of the deep desert in the newest adrenaline
rush from David Golemon, The New York Times bestselling author of
Legacy.
In the tradition of works by James Rollins, Preston
and Child and Matthew Reilly, Ripper is the latest in an action-packed series
about the nation’s most secret agency—The Event Group. In 1887, the British
Empire contracted brilliant American professor Lawrence Ambrose to create a
mutant gene to turn an ordinary person into an aggressive fighting machine. But
all too quickly, Ambrose was found to be behind a streak of vicious murders,
and in a cover-up of massive proportions, Queen Victoria ordered the
project, and Ambrose, terminated. Thus the legend of Jack the Ripper was
born.
The killings stopped as suddenly as they had
begun—but not because Ambrose was caught. Instead, he escaped and returned home
to America where he and his formula faded into history. But in 2012, a raid
against a Mexican drug lord uncovers a small cache of antiquated notebooks
containing long-buried instructions to create blind killers out of normal men.
Enter the Event Group and Col. Jack Collins, who are desperate to stop one of
their most feared enemies. When the formula is loosed in the underground halls
and vaults of the Event Group complex itself, brother will battle brother, and
for the first time in many men’s brave lives they will understand the true
meaning of fear.
The next heart-stopping chapter in the New York
Times bestselling Event Group series, Ripper takes readers to new levels of
suspense, where death could be hiding around any corner on this non-stop thrill
ride.

In this compelling final volume of The Salt
Trilogy, Hana narrowly escapes Blood Burrow after her mother chooses to swallow

the forest she meets Ben, son of Lo, and Hawk, who becomes her silent protector
and guide. But even in the forest there is no peace. When they learn of the
advancing armies that will wipe out all those who have sought refuge in the
wilderness, they realize they have no choice but to return to the city and
confront the terrible power of the Limping Man head-on. The problem is they know
that, unless they discover the secret to his power, none of them—alone or
together—is strong enough to fight the evil the Limping Man embodies.

Bride Series
The Iron Wyrm Affair
I ordered this Kindle book on a whim, based only on
the description (sounded interesting enough). I was expecting something maybe
like the William Monk series, but this was a surprise. Set in an alternate
Victorian England - "Britannia", the Iron Wyrm Affair has enough mistery and
sorcery to appeal to different tastes. I was pleasently surprised, I really
liked this book, and look forward to the next one.
Planning for Love
Wedding planner Ivy Rhodes is the best in the
business, and she's not about to let a personal problem stop her from getting
ahead. So when she's asked to star in the reality TV show Planning for Love, it
doesn't matter that the show's videographer happens to be a recent and
heartbreaking one-night stand.
Bennett Westcott admits he didn't handle his
encounter with Ivy very well. But looking at her beautiful smile and great body
through a camera lens every day? He can't be faulted for suggesting they have
some no-strings fun.
The more time they spend together, the more Ben
realizes Ivy isn't the wedding-crazed bridezilla he'd imagined. But if he
doesn't trust himself to make a relationship last, how can he convince Ivy to
give him another chance?
Eat Prey Love
I really enjoyed this book, loved Carlos. I have
been reading the entire series and have loved them all. I really enjoy the fact
that they keep all of the characters recurring throughout the series. I love the
humor and playfulness of the couples as well. Hope Ms. Sparks keeps them
coming...
Forever a Lady
Mathew was an outstanding hero he was domineering,
he was in charge of her future right from the beginning when they meet. He knew
what she wanted and he gave her that, he brought her the happiness that she
thought she could never have. He loved her he was faithful to her, he was an
alpha male. But never once did he disrespect her, that is what made him one of
the best heroes I have ever read about.
Our heroine was sometimes really annoying at times
she really does not fully trust him, so she threatens to turn him in when he
steals jewelry from her ex lover (who in fact had assaulted her). Seriously how
dumb this woman can be she betrays the man that saved her ugh? Which ultimately
this event led to more problems, in New York. But again our hero was there to
save her from her poor choices. At other times I really liked Bernadette however
she was sweet and giving (but not a push over). She was feminine and beautiful
and above all she was loyal to our hero and she proved her love by fighting for
him.
Overall this is a very beautiful story that I
highly recommend. This story entails adventure and it will not bore you at all.
The life of Five Points is described brilliantly. The sex scenes are brilliant
as well and over all their love is very sensual. I highly recommend this book I
could not put it away once I began reading, you will not be able to put it away
either.
A Scandalous Affair
With the other novellas in the Merry Widows series,
the main characters already have an established relationship which makes their
romance believable. That prior connection is missing in A Scandalous Affair.
Daphne and Hartwell do not spend much time together and their relationship felt
superficial and rushed. More of an "insta-love" vibe than a true emotional bond.
I did enjoy them as a couple and their sexual chemistry leads to some very
steamy lovemaking.
Cameo the Assassin
The world that Dawn McCullough creates is one of
magic and monsters, along with the type of technology one might see at the
beginning of the nineteenth century. There are vampires, witches, corrupt
royalty, and killers for hire, all plotting, both together and separately, to
bring down our small band of antiheroes. This is something I really liked, as
well. There are very few purely "good" characters in the book. All are deeply
flawed, and some downright contemptible. They change very slightly, if at all,
and yet seem to develop at least a sense of honor and duty, which presents
itself in the loyalty they have to each other. I found this to be unusual and
pleasing. It isn't often that I've read a book like this.
Dragon Justice
I love Bonnie. She is strong, smart, and willful.
My kind of heroine. A great mystery, loss, lessons learned, new friendships
forged, and old one's made stronger. The only thing that disappointed was the
one hook up scene was very lackluster. It reminded me of those old movies where
the couple kisses, then it cuts to them eating breakfast the next morning. Luna
is a subsidiary of Harlequin so I expected more after all the sexual tension
build up. I will be going back and reading the earlier books in the series, and
I can't wait for future installments.
Have a Little Faith: A True
Story
Like all of Mitch's books, Have a Little Faith is
brilliantly written. He captures the reader from page one and takes the reader
on his journey with a dying rabbi (Reb) and a man who turns his life around
(Henry). The only bond between the two is there faith in God one being Jewish
and the other being Christian. In between a couple of other characters are
introduced particularly Cass who has a beautifully defined role in the story.
This book does not preach nor does it favor either religion. It merely suggests
(as it does to Mitch) to look at yourself and perhaps refocus on the important
things in life whether it be family, friends or faith. In a time where the world
seems to be in a frenzy loving one another doesn't seem like a bad
thing.
To Sleep Gently
Trent Zelazny is such an engaging writer that the
words practically read themselves. With rich visuals to place you right in the
middle of each scene, realistic dialogue, intriguing characters and all the
elements of a great story, I wouldn't be surprised to see this compelling novel
on the best-sellers list soon!
12 Rounds
Hadlee hasn't been the same since that night she
was attacked. She just can't seem to get it out of her head. If it hadn't have
been for the guy that saved her everything could have been much worse. Still as
it is she can't get close to a guy, and can barely handle going to class much
less out with friends without having a panic attack. There just isn't any such
thing as a safe place when the devil as weaved his way into your head. That is
until she meets Sean, Right Hook, Reilly. There's something about him that just
seems so familiar, but most importantly safe...
All Summer Long
Charlie is best friends with Heidi, the newlywed in
SUMMER DAYS, and Annabelle, the newly engaged in SUMMER NIGHTS, who have met
their soulmates in the Stryker brothers, Rafe and Shane so this leaves the
youngest brother Clay, single and unattached. He has been a underwear model and
even had his bare butt in the movies. Charlie needs some help and Clay seems to
be the guy that can do it!
You can take a wild guess what she needs help doing
and maybe you'd be right. This is the big secret Charlie has been holding onto
for years. She tells her close friends after she has decided to do this. To add
to Charlie's problems her mother has come to town to make Charlie pay attention
to her and Dominique needs a lesson on how to get along and be close as
mother/daughter.
An Officer's Duty
Known for her romantic fantasies (see the Sons of
Destiny), Jean Johnson continues to display the width of her talent with her
second exciting Theirs Not to Reason Why military science fiction thriller. Fans
of Honor Harrington will appreciate heroic Ia who gives up the life she wants
and the man she loves to prevent a futuristic galactic wide catastrophe, which,
if unimpeded, would occur after she is dead. Fast-paced with terrific battle
scenes and deep characterizations, Ia brings a sense of urgency to this deep
tale.
Big Sky Mountain
The book opens with Hutch leaving his fiance at the
altar, which only proves to Kendra that he is a playboy heart crusher. But she
does see the good points about him to. He is great with little Madison, and the
scenes between them are soooo great! How can she resist a man she still loves
when he is so great with her daughter?? I mean he even buys a pony for
her!!!
This book answers the question of whether or not
two people with a rocky past can get over those hurts. There are so many things
to love about this book. You get to see Hutch's relationship with his
half-brother Slade grow into an action sibling relationship. I love how the
children in Linda's books actually play a part in the story! They aren't just
sprinkled in as an accent. Plus the smoking hot sex will have your e-reader
smoking!!! I highly recommend this book and series!!!
Can't Hurry Love
But when I realized she was setting up Luc's
spoiled sister, Victoria, as the heroine with Eli, I was worried. Worried for
about five minutes, because I knew this was a writer would could pull it off. I
mean, her heroine in the first book was engaged to an old man and ended up with
his son. Molly O'Keefe is a writer who can create fabulous characters I really
believe in, characters who break my heart.
If you've read both books in the series so far,
reading CAN'T HURRY LOVE becomes a lesson in how we shouldn't judge someone
before we walk in his or her shoes. Tori has been through a lot, as has Eli, and
they judge each other as much as we first judge them... But ultimately, they see
through their initial assumptions about each other, fall in love and I, as a
reader, fell in love with them both.
Descendant: The Shift
Chronicles
A Deadly Encounter...
A vicious werewolf attack
leaves Alex infected, confused, and suddenly surrounded by strangers who all
claim they want to help her. All she has to do is decide who to
trust.
A Dangerous Boy...
Kael is infuriating.
Arrogant. And entirely too hot for his own good. He also has secrets and a
dark past that could turn her whole world upside down.
An Ancient Blood Pact...
The only thing keeping
the human population safe from the shifters and lycans is the pact. The pact
that Alex's grandfather initiated. The one that only she can break.
Forge of Darkness
It's a conflicted time in Kurald Galain, the realm
of Darkness, where Mother Dark reigns. But this ancient land was once home to
many a power. and even death is not quite eternal. The commoners' great hero,
Vatha Urusander, is being promoted by his followers to take Mother Dark's hand
in marriage, but her Consort, Lord Draconus, stands in the way of such
ambitions. The impending clash sends fissures throughout the realm, and as the
rumors of civil war burn through the masses, an ancient power emerges from the
long dead seas. Caught in the middle of it all are the First Sons of Darkness,
Anomander, Andarist, and Silchas Ruin of the Purake Hold...
Steven Erikson entered the pantheon of great
fantasy writers with his debut Gardens of the Moon. Now he returns with the
first novel in a trilogy that takes place millennia before the events of the
Malazan Book of the Fallen and introduces readers to Kurald Galain, the warren
of Darkness. It is the epic story of a realm whose fate plays a crucial role in
shaping the world of the Malazan Empire.
Gunmetal Magic: A Novel in the World of
Kate Daniels
The story plot is similar to the first magic book
with a strong mystery at its heart but since the previous years the authors have
polished their craft and streamlined the story to run parallel to the events of
the Kate & Curran novella and thereby keeping the reader on their toes. The
author also utilize a new mythology as well as a new villain in their myriad
world and for this I have to applaud them thoroughly, their world is now very
similar to ours with the all the mythologies and history running parallel to
each other. Readers will get to see newer sights in Atlanta and so the authors
further expand their worldbuilding repertoire. The readers will surely
appreciate this new turn of events and keener minds will of course be trying to
discern what this specific tale will mean for the overall saga and for the
forthcoming fight between daughter and father.
Hide and Seek
This book is also really short... I should have it
read before the end of the day, but it may be until tomorrow because there is
also a game I want to start playing that was released today as well... I should
be getting in the mail today :D Anyways, either today or tomorrow, I will update
my post... This book is really short... With the prologue and the 1st 3 chapters
read I am already at about 15% complete.
Her Forgotten
Betrayal
Threats from a forgotten past, a hero who knows
more than he should, and present danger all converge in a mansion in the Georgia
mountains. Anna Destefano blends intriguing characters with a passionate,
fast-paced mystery! Loved this gothic story!
Knitting Under the
Influence
I just finished KUI, and I felt like I spent a
fabulous weekend away with three close girlfriends, with all the benefits of
intimate, nonstop conversation, and none of the obligations of having to cook,
clean, and make bed assignments. LaZebnik creates a world that is at once
familiar and compelling. Her characters are completely relatable you'll
recognize parts of yourself in their busy lives and hilarious predicaments. It's
a breezy read without being fluff. The author has such a keen understanding of
how enriching women's friendships are the confidences they share, the advice and
support they offer that you'll wish you, too, had a knitting circle comprised of
wonderful women like these with whom to share your trials and
tribulations.
Lessons from a Scandalous Bride: Forgotten
Princesses
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved the
chemistry between Logan and Cleo. It was refreshing. Logan is thoroughly
pursuing Cleo throughout most of the story and I quite enjoyed it. It's not too
often when we see a hero so persistent. I like that Logan was able to help bring
Cleo defenses down. Not only that, but he was incredibly passionate and tender
with her.
Moonglow
All in all, Moonglow was a very entertaining read.
Inventive and imaginative. And sexy as hell (sneaky thumbs, whew, that's all
I'll say...). Once again, I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book - Poppy
and Winston's. The developments between those two should make for a very
complicated love story... and I do so love a man with scars.
Night Forbidden
The new danger to Envy is definitely attention
grabbing. Bounty hunters are after Quent because of what he took from his
father. The Elite have been informing the Atlanteans that the residents of Envy
are stronger than they appear and need to be stopped before they rise up. Ana is
in tune with the ocean enough that she knows something is wrong deep in its
depths, and then something strange washes up on the shore of Envy.
I was glad to read pieces where past couples were
involved. Zoe and Quent had larger roles than some of the other past couples. I
was never a Zoe fan. She has been my least favorite heroine of the series. The
fact the she got as much page time as she did annoyed me. I'm still very curious
about Wyatt and when he will get his book. I think Joss may have set that up
some at the end of Night Forbidden. I'll keep my fingers crossed on that
wish.
Rome's Ex-ecutioner
The story flows well and much of the strength of
the novel revolves around the excellent development of the characters that take
on real personas and we as readers become totally engrossed by their
antics.
Events take place around 30 AD and move between
Rome and Thracia. This is a time when Emperor Tiberius removes himself into
voluntary isolation to his Villa Jovis on the island of Capri and leaves the
running of the Empire to Sejanus the commander of the Praetorian Guard. He is a
man determined to use all means to become the next Emperor. Lady Antonia
(sister-in-law of Tiberius) will of course do all in her power to thwart his
efforts.
Shadow Sight
The number of creatures introduced throughout the
book is staggering. Because each creature tends to have a way to hide it's
appearance, these fae and demons lurk in plain sight. I found the way this is
done to be very clever. Props to the author for including species I have never
heard of before. However, I could have used a pronunciation guide for the dark
horses each uisge.
I like the main character Ivy, she seems to have
her head on her shoulders. Why she would be wearing three inch heels in the
cover is beyond me, as those aren't included in the two pairs of shoes she owns
in the book. Cross trainers and a pair of Doc Martens so no, not really a heels
chick. Practical, she wears gloves in the heat to avoid nasty visions. Since
often being sarcastic and grumpy seems to be part of Ivy's personality, she
could have been a little more edgy.
Shadows Before the
Sun
For the first time in the series, Charlie shares
POV space with another character: Hank. The majority of the story is still told
from Charlie's perspective, but those few scenes from Hank are fantastic. He's
long been the character I've been craving to know more about, and this glimpse
inside has only made me want to know more. His chapters are often delusional as
he is repeatedly brought to the point of death and his mind begins to shred as a
result. The Hank that emerges is damaged, though not as much as I would have
expected...hopefully the ramifications are just further reaching.
The Charlie Madigan urban fantasy series has been a
favorite since it's debut, and it's books like SHADOWS BEFORE THE SUN that
ensure it stays a favorite. The mythology is utterly unique, and introducing
Hank's perspective, along with a willingness to resolve long running storylines
while setting up new ones are just further indications that this series has
plenty more to give. Bring it on.
The Lady Is a Vamp: An Argeneau
Novel
This long running series could be getting stale and
tired, but I found that with this book and the last one "Under a Vampire Moon"
Ms Sands seems to be taking the series in several new directions. These
directions are ones that I am whole-heartedly happy for. The last book was quite
humorous as is a lot of Ms Sands novels. The "Lady is a Vamp" takes a bit more
serious approach to what it means to be a vampire who falls in love with a
mortal. It also delves into what a vampire can do for a mortal that is dying
before her eyes.
2013: The Aftermath
We've all heard the theories about 2012. Some say a
change is coming others say we are all doomed. But what happens next? How
will humankind adapt to this new Earth? Join us as we take a journey through the
end of days and peer into the minds of those who survived it. Some try to save
mankind from darkness, some give in to their animal instincts some search
for salvation, others defend their lives against post-apocalyptic mutants. When
all you've ever known is gone in the blink of an eye, what would you
do?
The Unspoken: Krewe of
Hunters
Having found the location where Jerry McGuen sits
on the seabed, a diver and a ghost expert explore only to die. The FBI assigns
Jackson Crow and his Krewe of Hunters unit to investigate the ghost ship.
Pathologist Katya Sokolpv and illusionist Will Chan meet at the Chicago morgue
and follow-up with inquiries into the mysterious deaths as more people involved
with the Jerry McGuen exploration die.
The latest Krewe of Hunters romantic urban fantasy
(see The Unholy) star two previous support characters who although
attracted to one another get on each other's nerves. The paranormal romantic
mystery is exhilarating and fast-paced with the lead duet and their team finding
evidence that point to several suspects but one Unspoken name in particular
seems most likely the culprit. The romance is handled deftly, but feels more a
requirement as the whodunit grips the audience.
The Quantum
Connection
The imaginative scope of Quantum Connection reminds
me of the old Lensmen novels of E.E. "Doc" Smith. The story opens up to a
conflict that encompasses a significant part of our galaxy with multiple alien
races, practically none of whom qualify as friendly to humans. The callous
attitude flows from the enormous technological gap between them and humans. It
pays to be underestimated because the dynamism of the freedom-loving humans
enables them to play a good catch-up game, while playing off of competing
hostile alien races.
There is an exuberance to Taylor's fiction that
hearkens back to the Golden Age of SF, with an All-American optimism that Real
Men and Real Women can get into any scrap and come out of it victorious. So if
you are feeling down about the world's prospects, treat yourself to Quantum
Connection and you will enjoy a world where the good guys can become he-men
(with help from nanotechnology) and the "good gals" are smart, beautiful
(sometimes with a little help from nanotech) and can fight like hellcats
alongside the good guys.
